Rachael Ray Bein' Crazy

Okay, so there’s no brick.

Anyways, I stumbled across this recipe on an episode of 30 minute meals I left on while doing something more important. It looked tasty so hell, why not? I’ve never tried a Rachel Ray recipe, and you know… we’re kind of kindred spirits!

We both have no formal training as a cook, we’re both horribly under qualified should we attempt to work in a serious kitchen, we both have relatively chipper personalities, everything we plate looks like horse shit, and we both babble incoherently.

It is currently 12AM, Monday morning/Sunday night, and it’s been one hell of a lousy weekend. Saturday was spent putting together furniture and fantasizing about suicide and/or homicide, and Saturday night was spent hunting down my rat faced shitbastard of a cat, Izzy, who had broken a brand new lamp.

To compound this, Katzilla, our other cat, was also being an absolute terror, and because of our two furry companions Tracy and I slept around six hours between the two of us. So for Sunday’s offering, I’ve decided to bake my kitten Izzy into a delicious pie.

Alright, so we had to get some furniture moved from Tracy’s parents’ house to our place. A co-worker and friend, simply known as Joe offered some help, so we took him up on it. His reward? Some beer and a dinner cooked by yours truly. I had casually asked Joe what his favorite meat was (Joe being a meat-eating sort of guy), and he responded prime rib. Sure thing, I always wanted to cook a prime rib and we have more disposable income than we’re used to. So here’s the plan, according to Joe’s ideal meal:

Whipped garlic mashed potatoes.
Broccoli with a cheese sauce.
Roasted prime rib.

Disco Stew

Okay, so I had a leftover bottle of mediocre shiraz (we had a few sips, decided it was meh, and I saved it for cooking wine) with big plans to throw it in a beef stew. Today is that beef stew. I’ve done beef stew before as well, but I’m going to make my own beef stock for the stew.

Anybody who mentions how retarded it is to make beef stock on the same day you’re making stew can drop dead. Seriously. Now.

To quote my friend Joe, let’s get into the meat and potatoes of this.

My first meal here is going to be taken directly from celebrity chef Tyler Florence, who’s delicious recipes I have been gleefully ripping off for some time now. Not sure how he stacks up as a cook, but whatever. I like his stuff. What I’m attempting here is some southern style cooking; barbecued chicken, cornbread, and coleslaw with pecans and a spicy sauce. The recipes are all being taken directly from the food network website. This is my first attempt to blog my cooking, and so here goes!
